Yet I will rejoice in the Lord

Habakkuk 3:17-19 "Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet, I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength, and He will make my feet like hinds' feet, and He will make me to walk upon high places."
The situation being described above by the prophet is a disastrous one...but the faith being expressed is courageous. The writer is actually saying, Even if I am forced to undergo the extreme condition of not knowing where to find my next meal, and although my house is empty and my fields yield no crops, and I see the pestilence where I once saw the fruits of God's plentiful provision, 'yet I will rejoice in the Lord.' "
These are difficult words for us to understand...but they are worthy of looking into, and by the grace of God, may they be etched on the tablets of each of our hearts. Habukkuk was saying that in times of disaster, he would flee to God; that he would continue to trust Him even under the darkest of circumstances, and that he would delight himself in God, no matter what the situation was. His expectations would be from God. His hope would be in God. He would not give up, no matter what was going on around him. He would not quit trusting, no matter what was happening in his life.
It seems that Habakkuk's feelings were not controlled by the things around him, but by faith in God's ability to give him strength. I wish I could say that I am there, but I can't..but I can say that when nothing makes sense in our lives, and when trouble seems more than we can bear, remember that God gives strength. Remember to take your eyes off of your difficulties and look to God. He will give His children surefooted confidence through difficulties and trials. He will bring about justice in His time.
Habakkuk had asked God why evil people prosper, while the righteous suffer. God's reply was that they don't...not in the long run. Beloved, remember today, no matter what you are going through, that God is still in control of your situation. His timing may seem slower than you'd like, but we cannot see all that He is doing. God sees your situation and He knows your heart. He will make your feet like hinds feet, and He will make you to walk upon the high places. Knowing this brings us confidence and hope in a confusing world.
