He will provide

I Kings 17:4 " And so it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there."
Elijah was one of the first in a long line of prophets that God sent to Israel. This particular passage speaks of God providing for him during a drought. By the word of God, Elijah knew that there would be no rain for several years...so God instructed him to go..and hide himself by the brook Cherith..there it was that the Lord miraculously provided for Elijah by having ravens bring him food every morning and every evening..and he drank from the brook. God often has help for us where we least expect it. Can you imagine the situation that Elijah was in..and yet knowing that God is faithful..and that He would provide. He could trust that daily God would be his source.
The passage goes on to relate that after a while, the brook dried up because of the lack of rain. When that happened, the Lord spoke to Elijah, telling him to ARISE..and to move on to Zarephath..and dwell there.
I have been really looking forward all weekend to writing today's devotion because I believe it is really for some of you today. Have you ever been in the situation Elijah was in? You are at a place in your life where the brook that you've depended upon has dried up...the anointing just doesn't seem to be there any more. Maybe you are in a place where you've been in for so long that you just feel stuck..maybe you once knew you were called to something in your life,..and now the brook has dried up. Not only is there no joy or peace any more, but the anointing that was once there doesn't seem to be there any more. Sometimes we stay in situations because we knew we were once called..sometimes we stay out of a sense or responsibility..or even a sense of guilt. Sometimes we just assume that this was where we would always be...but sometimes..God is saying to us as He did to Elijah. ARISE..I have a new place for you to dwell! Beloved, if we don't ARISE..and trust that God will continue to provide for us, we sort of tie God's hands too.. Often, he doesn't unfold to us what the next step is..He only unfolds the step we're on. If we don't take THAT step, we are STUCK..and God doesn't want any of you to be stuck. He wants you to be able to go forward! I once heard our pastor from years ago say, "If the horse has been dead for a while, DISMOUNT!"
Child of God, if something in your life that was once so alive, now just seems nearly dead to you, begin to ask God what is happening. Begin to seek Him, and ask for direction. Don't assume that He will always keep you where He's had you. I think He sometimes likes to move us forward..he has begun a "new thing" for some of you..but you have to arise. Like Elijah, you can trust that God will provide for you. He has help from sources that are least expected. His resources are unlimited and YOU are His beloved.
