I have done a devotion on this verse before..but this is one of my favorite verses. I love the promise that is contained in this verse. God is saying that we can have PERFECT PEACE. When our minds are steadfastly stayed on God, we will experience the peace that knows no boundaries, the peace that is limitless, the peace that is perfect.
There are so many things that rob us of our peace. Are there people in your life that you may never be able to please or impress? For me, that has been one of the greatest "peace stealing" problems that I have dealt with. There are folks in all of our lives who will never say the words we long to hear.."good job", "congratulations", "I'm so thankful for you", or even "I love you". In fact, their words are often the opposite. Their words are often the voice of the enemy, speaking aloud our deepest regrets, fears, inadequacies and doubts about ourselves.
If we take their opinions of us into account, we will feel like a failure every time...thereby allowing our peace to be stolen. I don't know about you, but I have allowed my peace to be stolen too often, and it's time to change.
What a sweet release it is to remember that our purpose is not to please anyone, but God alone. It is not only discouraging to elevate the opinion of others, but I wonder sometimes if it isn't actually sin..idolatry is putting something or something above or ahead of God. He is the Source of our true validation. His is the only definition of our identity that matters.
God gives me perfect peace when I keep my mind, and heart focused on Him. Beloved, do not look elsewhere. Keep your eyes fixed on your Creator. He loves you.
