Child of God, have you ever thought about the fact that your sins are forgiven? When I let myself think about the goodness of our God, and about the sacrifice that Christ made for every one of us, I am overwhelmed at His goodness. What I really want to focus on today is that God said He would REMEMBER our sins no more! That is hard for us to fathom, because as humans, often living in that soulish realm (mind, will, and emotions) we don't easily forget the wrongs that have been done to us...but your Savior said..I will remember your sins and iniquities no more.
In the Old Testament, yearly animal sacrifices were made, the blood of these animals being sprinkled on the altar, because without the shedding of blood, there was no remission (forgiveness) of sin. Hebrews 10:3 says, "But..in those sacrifices..(the Old Testament sacrifices)...there is a REMEMBRANCE again made of sins every year.".. because it was not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sin. When people gathered on the day of Atonement, they were reminded of their sins and probably felt guilty all over again. What they needed was forgiveness..the permanent, powerful, sin destroying forgiveness that Christ would offer. Once we have confessed our sins to Him, we never need to think of them again..because He doesn't. He has forgiven us, and our sins no longer exists. Hebrews 10:10 says, "We are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all."
Hebrews 10:11 tells us that the priests stood daily ministering and making offerings for sins which could never take away the sins! But this man Christ..offered one sacrifice (Himself) for our sins FOREVER! Verse 18 says that where there is remission (forgiveness) of sins, there is no more offering needed for sin. AMAZING!
Now, as a child of God, what God wants US to remember is HIM! When we take communion, He says, do this in REMEMBRANCE of me! When we take the bread, we REMEMBER the sacrifice that was made for us. We remember the body of Christ, broken, pierced, and bleeding..for us. We remember as we take the cup, the blood of Christ..and that Jesus said, "This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.Do this in REMEMBRANCE of me." Without the shedding of blood, there would have been no forgivness of sins. Beloved, the next time you take communion, remember Him. Remember that without His sacrifice, every one of us would stand guilty before God; Remember the Old Testament saints who were reminded of their sins..Remember the fact that you aren't. Remember the fact that your sins are not just covered, they are removed. Remember the love that your Savior has for you.
Does this remission of sins give us license then to sin? As Paul said, Absolutely NOT! Knowing the sacrifice that Jesus made for each and every one of us should be the very thing that works in our HEARTS and our SPIRIT.. that if Christ loved us THAT MUCH, we would NEVER want to do something that would hurt HIS heart. Oh, precious child of God, as the scripture says, it is barely for a good man that one would lay down his life..and yet Christ laid down His life for us while we were YET sinners!
Today, I just encourage each and every one of us to spend some time remembering. When we remember Christ's sacrifice for us, it will change our lives.
