None of us can actually comprehend God..BUT..by His Spirit, believers have insight into some of God's plans, thoughts and actions. Paul was saying here that as believers in Jesus, the Son of God, we are given the mind of Christ..because He is alive in us. We no longer think the way we once did. We begin to think as He did.
Another way to look at this is to point to the promise that God spoke through Ezekiel. "A new heart will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you, and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you shall heed My ordinances and do them." God gave that promise through the prophet while the children of Israel were still in Babylon. He wanted to show them that their present situation was not the end. He would not abandon them, not matter how many times they had failed.
When we have the Holy Spirit living and active within us, the mind of Christ is in action. When we have the mind of Christ, we begin to see things through the eyes of Christ. We will begin to have more hope where before we may not have had any. We will begin to be able to shake off discouragement which leads to despair..and even though we may not ever completely understand the ways of God, we will begin to realize that He never gives up on us. He never quits working in our lives, even when we have failed.
Jesus went to the cross with His fixed on God..despite the fact that He had been lied about, lonely, misunderstood, and a multitude of other things. He never lost His focus. Because we have the mind of Christ, when we have the opportunity to become negative in our thinking, we can instantly discern that we are not operating within His mind. God doesn't want us to be unhappy. He wants us to be lifted up. It's the enemy of our soul who wants us to be pressed down and depressed. When negative thoughts come into our minds, we do not have to accept them. This is something that has been a big issue for me..I always thought I just had to think whatever popped into my mind. Last week, when Ray was gone and those old thoughts started to come in..like..what if something happens while he's gone? What if something happens to the plane? I knew..those thoughts were not from God..so with His help, I was able to dismiss them. I never even knew before that a person could do that..but we can.
Every situation that presents itself gives us an opportunity to make a choice. What we often forget is that when we choose to dwell on the negative, many times we are not even conscious of it. We follow old thought patterns, or the old mind..and not the mind of Christ. As God promised the Jews through Ezekiel's prophecy, He will give us a new heart and a new Spirit. You are a new man (or woman) when you are a child of God...and He will NEVER give up on you. He will NEVER stop loving you.
Today, ask Him to help you to have the mind of Christ..and to help you in your thought life. I know and believe that He truly wants to help each of this in this area.
