Redemption

I Peter 1:18-19 "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as a lamb without blemish and without spot."

A slave was "redeemed" when someone paid money to buy his or her freedom. God has redeemed us in the same way, but not with money. The precious lamb of God laid down his life, while we were yet sinners for our redemption. It is the blood of Christ that covers our lives, that has set us free from the power of sin and death.

Christ's sacrifice for our sins was not an afterthought or something that God decided to do when the world got out of control. This plan was set in motion by the all-knowing, eternal God long before the world was created. When you love someone, you are willing to give freely, to the point of self sacrifice. Jesus gave dearly. He laid down his life. That was the highest price He could pay. He accepted our punishment, paid the price for our sins, and then offered US the new life that He bought for us!

The blood of Christ has set us free from sin and guilt. It has set us free from an empty way of life. We were not purchased with anything this world could have to offer. There is no amount of gold, or silver that could ever begin to cover the life of one precious child of God..but Jesus' blood can..and it did.

The blood of Christ covering your life is precious beyond measure. As you go into your weekend, my prayer for you is simply that you remember, that you have been purchased by the blood of Christ. Because you belong to Him, you can trust Him. If He loved you enough to lay down His life for you, then He loves you enough to carry you through every day in this life..."being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God, which liveth and abideth forever." Amen.
