Trust in Him

Luke 24:21a “But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel…”

These disciples had counted on Jesus to redeem Israel, so when Jesus died, they lost their hope. Now, He was standing right in front of them, fully resurrected, and they didn’t even recognize Him. Many of the Jews had believed that the Old Testament prophecies had pointed to a military or political Messiah, not even realizing that the true Messiah had already redeemed people from the slavery of sin. They were totally missing Jesus and felt lost and hopeless.

The sad truth is, that we don’t always see Jesus either. So often, we pray, we invite Jesus into a situation..but then we trust our five senses instead of trusting Him. True, it is easier to see through physical eyes and hear through physical ears, than to see and hear through the eyes or ears of our Spirit. Often when we pray and we don’t see immediate results, we lose hope, just as His disciples did that day. We fail to recognize His presence because we are totally trusting in what we see, hear, taste, smell, and feel. I must emphasize to you that I am speaking of two realms here..the physical realm, which is the one we tend to trust in, and the Spiritual realm..the one that is actually more real than the physical..the one that we can’t see with our physical eyes or touch with our hands, but we can touch and feel that realm through the eyes and ears of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.

Paul said to the Thessalonians that he prayed their whole Spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless..the soul being the mind, will and emotions. That seems to be the realm where we live..we think things to death..we reason things out..we want answers..and yet so much of the time in that soulish realm, we aren’t seeing Jesus..we are missing His very presence in a situation, which is exactly what happened to the disciples that day on the road to Emmaus.

It has been my great desire for these devotions to TRULY be a blessing to each and every one of you. It has been my hope that the Lord will use them to not only draw you into a closer walk with Him..but also that you will begin to recognize His presence in your life..no matter what you may be facing today I believe that He wants to direct us, and to offer us hope in every situation. I believe that He is in our storms..I think that maybe we rely too much on our five senses, rather than relying on Him.

I encourage you to start a journal..and write down those times when you have a sense of His presence..when you know He is speaking to you..when you know He is being the God of all comfort..when you see with the eyes of your Spirit, a change in someone you’ve been praying for..even if it’s small...I know that keeping a journal might be a bit too much for some..in that case, I would ask you to begin to pray, and I will pray along with you..that the Lord will begin to reveal Himself to you in ways and circumstances that you might have missed before. Look for Him in the little things. He is there. I promise you.
