I love the word "continually" in this verse. Friends, we need to "continually" seek God. Sometimes as I write these devotions, I wonder if they all begin to sound the same...because my main objective has been to direct all of us back to God. We live in this world, but we are not a part of it as children of God. We have a home waiting for us in heaven. That's exciting. Knowing that as Christ went back to the Father, so will we one day, creates hope in each of us. But while we are here, we need to continually follow hard after Christ.
The world has changed so much since I was a kid. I remember standing on the front porch of our home in Lodi, and jumping off the rail to try to grab a leaf off of the big walnut tree that was in our front yard at the time. That was such a fun activity and one of the ways that my sister and I filled our days. Things have sure changed from those simple days many years ago. Today, things just aren't as simple and the world is a very serious place. If we are not "continually" seeking God..it would be easy to become fearful or even depressed.
But the Lord WANTS us to draw from Him. This verse says that He is our strong habitation. The word habitation means refuge. God is our refuge. He is our rock and our fortress. He is our hiding place..but He also is the One who gives us strength. Deuteronomy 4:19 says, "But if from thence, thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find Him..if thou seek Him with all thy heart and with all thy soul." God wants us to seek Him. He wants to show Himself strong in our lives. He wants to give us direction. He wants to give us strength when we have no strength of our own. He wants to carry us during those times when we can't walk.
The verse also says that God has given commandment to save us. That is so comforting to me. God wants to help us in every situation. I think that our part in that is to simply believe Him, and to seek after Him with our whole hearts. Today, as you go through your busy day, and things come up against you..remind yourself that God is your STRONG habitation..where you may CONTINUALLY find refuge
